Bar Mitzvah celebrations have grown exponentially in size and scope in the past twenty years.

That's great news for me; I derive much of the income I earn as a party entertainer from working at these events. Nonetheless, I offer this advice to those planning Bar Mitzvah celebrations:

Less is more.

Becoming a Bar Mitzvah is a major milestone in the life of a Jewish youngster. It is a joyous occasion deserving of celebration.

While the Bar Mitzvah service is a religious ceremony, the reception that follows is a thoroughly secular affair.

In a generation, the typical Bar Mitzvah reception has grown from a homegrown simple affair to something rivaling many weddings in its elaborateness and cost.

And, like the over-commercialization of Christmas, what is intended to be a joyous celebration of friends and family has gotten out of hand.

Don't misunderstand. I share the joy of the Bar Mitzvah's family. I've felt much joy when members of my own family and friends' families have reached this threshold.

It's just my observation that too much of the time the celebrants aren't enjoying themselves very much.

The outsize scope of many Bar Mitzvah celebrations seem to be a product of social pressure more than anything else. And the excess seems to be most pronounced in large American cities - travel to the Mid-west or to Israel, for that matter, and you'll generally find a more low key event.

Peer pressure is more intense for most people in their teen years then any other time of their lives. Couple that with the social pressure Bar Mitzvah parents feel to show their family in the best possible light in front of friends and relatives ... and the stage is set for excess.

And we, in the industry that has grown up around Bar Mitzvah celebrations, are only too happy to indulge you.

By the time they rent a banquet hall, hire a caterer and a DJ or band, perhaps a videographer and/or photographer, the price tag can easily reach five figures. And that doesn't include centerpieces, balloons, favors and other add-ons.

For families of modest means facing college costs in just a few years, the cost of these receptions is a sacrifice.

Meanwhile, Bar Mitzvah age children receive invitations to attend an endless round of Bar Mitzvah celebrations of their friends and classmates. By the time they finish many are bored and jaded.

I suggest that Bar Mitzvah families take back the Bar Mitzvah celebration and mold it into something that is meaningful to them and their guests.

Here are six suggestions:

1. Remember, there is absolutely no religious component to the Bar Mitzvah reception.

So keep the aspects you like, and throw out those you don't. Or just modify them.

2. Some kids love the big party. If so, go for it.

But what if your kid doesn't?

My niece loved the dancing, games and glitz at her cousin's Bat Mitzvah. But my nephew was bored to tears.

If your kid is like my nephew, save the aggravation and ditch the big party. With the same budget, you can substitute a trip to Israel and have money left over. Or plan something else that is equally awesome.

3. Is it necessary to invite your kid's entire class? While the answer is probably yes if the class is close-knit, most classes are not.

Anyway, does your daughter really have 70 best friends?

4. Most Bar Mitzvah receptions last at least 4-5 hours.That can be an eternity if you are at a social function where you know very few people.

So, is it necessary to invite your Dad's Great Uncle Sid who hasn't seen your family in the last 20 years?

5. Since the DJ community introduced the candle lighting ceremony in the 1980's, it has become a fixture at Bar Mitzvah celebrations.

The ceremony is a wonderful way for the newly minted Bar Mitzvah to honor friends and family. Many truly appreciate the opportunity to pay tribute.

Too often, in practice, the resulting presentation is a tired, singsong recitation of sappy prose written by the overworked Bar Mitzvah Mom.

In that case, it's useful to note that no higher authority has decreed that the candle lighting ceremony be made a mandatory feature at Bar and Bat Mitzvah receptions.

6. Jewish Law notwithstanding, unsupervised, sugar-crazed thirteen year-olds are still kids.

So, make sure an adult wanders over to the children's area once in a while ...

Especially if your guest list includes 70 of your kid's best friends.

Your guardian angel is your link to the divine. The word "angel" comes from the Greek and means "a messenger." The concept of guardian angels goes back thousands of years to the Assyrian and Babylonian civilisations where they were believed to protect palaces and temples. However, this gradually changed. Many people in the Christian tradition believe that every baby gets assigned a guardian angel at birth. Jesus referred to this when he said that the angels who look after children always face God (Matthew 18:10).

About 150 AD, a man named Hermas wrote one of the earliest Christian bestsellers, Shepherd of Hermas. In it, Hermas wrote of his personal angel-shepherd who acted as his guardian angel and helped him on a daily basis. Moving forward almost 1,900 years, Pope Pius XI said that he prayed to his guardian angel every morning and evening. When he had to speak to someone who was opposed to him, he asked his guardian angel to communicate with the other person's guardian angel first, to eliminate any potential problems.

We all have a guardian angel that watches over us, and tries to help us in subtle ways. Not long ago, I spoke to a woman who had narrowly escaped being run over while crossing a road. She felt a force push her to the side of the road moments before a car raced past. She attributed her lucky escape to her guardian angel.

Small children often believe in guardian angels, but often lose faith as they grow into adulthood. Regardless of your beliefs, your guardian angel continues to communicate with you in thoughts and dreams intended to inspire, help and counsel you. However, your guardian angel will never interfere with your free will. Occasionally, when the situation is urgent, guardian angels act in a more direct way. When Sir Ernest Shackleton, the British explorer, was returning from the South Pole, he knew that "one more" accompanied his party. When Sir Francis Smythe was attempting the final stage of his ascent of Mount Everest on his own, he was aware of an invisible companion. "I could not feel lonely, neither could I come to any harm," he wrote afterwards.

How do you recognize your guardian angel? Ask your guardian angel to communicate with you in quiet moments. Become aware of your dreams. Heed the quiet voice that warns you when you are tempted to do something wrong. You will gradually realise that your guardian angel is with you all the time, and is willing to help you in everything you do.

Your guardian angel is your own personal guide and teacher. As you accept your guardian angel's presence your life will gradually improve. Small upsets will no longer bother you, and you'll find yourself more loving, accepting and compassionate. You'll also become aware of the spiritual in every area of your life.

until recently that if a child's vision was impaired because of a "lazy eye," the condition could not be corrected past the age of six or seven years. However, a study funded by the National Eye Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, has found that amblyopia or "lazy eye" treatment can be effective in children age seven through 17. In fact, many of the 517 children studied at 49 eye centers showed improvement in their vision.

"Age alone should not determine whether or not to treat," said Michael Repka, M.D., a pediatric ophthalmologist at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and a co-author of the study. Even teenagers benefit from treatment, said Repka.

Amblyopia is a common cause of vision loss in as many as 3% of children in the US.

During infancy or childhood, the vision loss occurs when the brain favors one eye over the other. The other healthy eye does not receive brain input, limiting visual development. The most common causes of &lazy eye" are nearsightedness, farsightedness, or a crossed or wandering eye (strabismus).

The reason vision in the amblyopic eye improves is due to the brain's plasticity, says Susan Cotter, O.D., a pediatric optometrist at the Southern California College of Optometry and co-author of the treatment study. Neuroplasticity means the brain can change with learning. By forcing the unused eye to work, the brain will process the sensory information and adapt. As a result, vision improves.

Children in the study were divided into two groups, randomly selected. One group wore only prescription classes. The other group either wore glasses and an eye patch or glasses, an eye patch and eye drops. The latter group was also instructed to read, draw, or do other close-up activities as well since "near-vision activities are visually stimulating," says Cotter.

The patch, eye drops and close-up work forced the test subjects to use their amblyopic eyes. Children wore the patch for two to six hours per day. Children 12 years and less also used eye drops.

However, "eye drops blur the eye all day which is why the teenagers wore only patches, which could be removed while driving," says Cotter.

If children in the study could read two more lines on the eye chart with the amblyopic eye, the treatment was considered successful.

According to the National Eye Institute, 53% of children in the study ages 7 through 12 who wore glasses and a patch for 2-6 hours per day, and did near-vision activities could read two or more lines on the eye chart after 24 weeks. But only 25% in this age group could do the same. Twenty-five per cent of children ages 13 through 17 who wore eye glasses and a patch had improved vision whereas 23% who wore only glasses improved. Of those children in this age group who had been previously treated for amblyopia, 47% who wore glasses and a patch and did close-up work had improved vision. On the other hand, only 20 % improved who were treated with only glasses.

"This study shows how important it is to screen children of all ages for amblyopia," said study co-chairman Richard W. Hertle, M.D., Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

If children also have strabismus and will undergo surgery to correct the eye muscle imbalance, they should be treated first for amblyopia, says Cotter. "Surgery doesn't help amblyopia. If the child has surgery and amblyopia still exists, one eye with 20/100 vision, for instance, will be blurry; consequently it will be difficult or impossible for the brain to fuse the two images together into one," says Cotter.

Atropine eye drops may serve to improve compliance because the child doesn't require monitoring. Adhesive patches are also used to increase compliance in young children as it is difficult for them to peek. "Children can't be monitored all day," says Cotter.

Although the adhesive patch is hypoallergenic, some children with sensitive skin experience irritation when the patch is removed. So some doctors allow their patients to switch to cloth patches. Cloth patches with side shields still block vision in the affected eye.

The number of hours that the children wore their patch was through self report. "This is a real world, treatment effectiveness study," says Cotter. "I do the same clinically."

A new study is planned to learn about the effects of near-vision activities on amblyopia.

A Better Perspective: Executive Coaching and Training

Having found a coach you feel comfortable and excited about working with, the next step is to discuss and sign the coaching contract or agreement. This is vital to ensure that both coach and client are clear from the outset about what is expected.

The coaching contract will set out the duration of the coaching, and the frequency and length of the sessions within that period. It will make clear the etiquette of the coaching relationship - for example, what each party should do if they need to reschedule appointments. The contract will suggest what needs to be done between sessions in order for agreed goals to be achieved, and the availability of the coach between sessions.

There will be guidelines regarding what is required from the coaching relationship in order for optimum results to be achieved. The coach needs honest feedback from the client about how well the coaching is working - different people may need different approaches. Equally, the client must be able to take on board frank feedback from the coach if they are to move forward past existing blocks.

The contract will emphasise that everything discussed during coaching is confidential and will not be revealed by the coach or used for the coach's own personal gain.

The payment structure will be clearly set out, including the frequency of payments, which are normally requested in advance.

The beauty of the coaching contract is that having discussed and agreed the practicalities before coaching starts, both parties are free during the sessions to concentrate purely on the client's goals and ways to achieve them.

"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there."

This very much applies to the your retirement plans especially if you are investing in the stock market. The proverb clearly states you need to know where you are going and how to get there. Right now, do you know how much money you are going to need to retire in the style you wish and, right now, do you have a plan to get that money put away?

Unfortunately, most people don't. Many are saving, but with no plan. Are you one of those who let his broker or financial planner do the investing for you? I sure hope not. When I owned my brokerage company I can tell you about 1% of these "experts" know how to make money. My definition of a broker is one who makes you broker.

Brokers will talk circles around you with all the usual Wall Street smoke and mirrors. Their two great myths are "Buy and Hold" and "Dollar Cost Averaging", both of which don't work very well. And then they will mesmerize you with "Research" which is the greatest waste of time I can think of.

Brokers are not taught how to make money and they don't even realize it. Their training is designed to keep the brokerage house from being sued. Brokers have been good students, but badly taught.

Let me prove that to you. If research was so good then why isn't every broker rich? He has access to more information than you will ever be able to get. The big wire houses subscribe to tons of information. Brokers seem to confuse information with money-making. Information is of no value at all if you can't turn it into the purchase of a stock or mutual fund that is going up.

I maintain you don't need to know anything about a stock or mutual fund. All you need to do is look at a chart of a particular equity and if it is going up at a 30-degree angle over the long term (last 3 months), then buy it. When it quits going up, sell it and find another one. Brokers will tell you this is too simplistic and won't work. As I said they have been badly taught.

If you are not happy with the returns on your investment portfolio you will want to reanalyze your goal. Set an amount. Change direction. Get on a better road to achieve that goal.

You cannot rely on someone else to do it for you. It is not their money, it is yours. No one will take the interest in that you do. Just do it!

If you love herbal teas, as I do, you know they are just a little bit pricey. However, growing your own herbs is easy and so much fun!

Here are just a few of the herbs you might want to consider for a tea garden:

Chamomile: Remember the favorite tea of Peter Rabbit? Only the flowers of this fragrant herb are used when making tea. Chamomile tea can be enjoyed by itself or you might enjoy adding mint or lemon verbena.

Lemon Balm: This herb is lemony with a touch of mint and makes a soothing cup of tea.

It's easy to grow (almost too easy) so remember to keep it clipped back.

Lemon Verbena: An excellent herb to grow in a sunny spot, it makes a delicious tea. You might try combining it with orange mint or spearmint.

Mints: There are many mints available. Generally, they are aromatic plants and they are aggressive. It may be a good idea to plant mint in a pot and then put the pot in the ground so it doesn't take over your herb garden. Spearmint, peppermint, orange mint all make wonderful teas, alone or along with chamomile or any of the lemon herbs.

Herb teas can be made with fresh or dried herbs and can be enjoyed either hot or cold.

For one cup of hot tea, use one teaspoon of dry herbs or up to 3 teaspoons of fresh herbs. Bruising the leaves of fresh herbs will help release the flavor. Pour boiling water over the herbs in a glass or china pot. Metal pots can sometimes leave a metallic taste. Let steep for 5 or so minutes. Strain and enjoy with a little honey to sweeten.

Sun tea can be made simply by filling a jar with water, throw in a handful of crushed fresh herbs, and set in the sun for 3 or 4 hours. Stir in a little honey to sweeten, pour over ice and enjoy.

Trying different combinations of herbs is fun. Remember you can also add spices you have on hand, such as cinnamon, cloves, etc.

There are many benefits to growing and making your own herbal teas. Gardening itself is very relaxing and rewarding. With herbs from your garden you can soothe away your troubles with a cup of chamomile tea or make yourself a refreshing cup of peppermint tea after a hard day at work.

Have you ever thought about how your orientation to time profoundly affects the way you are in the world? Each culture has its own unique way of relating to the concept of "time". Some cultures perceive time as a room that is lived in. The "room" of time is a constant that stays the same, as we change during the course of our lives. American culture seems to more and more think of time as a commodity there is never enough of. When time is "wasted" a person misses out on an opportunity that may never present itself again. Still other cultures experience time as being circular, without a beginning or an end, and with no clear markers as to past, present, and future. No matter how we think about it, our relationship to time has a profound impact on what we believe is possible. Here is a story to illustrate what I mean.

Years ago I belonged to a healing community in the States. A women who was a member of the group had an infant who was born with a serious condition which was meant to limit the young child's life span to only three or four years maximum. The woman was totally committed to the health and well being of her infant, and she spent every waking moment praying for her baby. Her prayer went something like this: "Dear Lord, please heal my baby and help him to be fully healthy." She offered up this prayer countless times a day.

After some months of praying, and with the child's condition not improving, the mother spontaneously had an important "truth" present itself to her. She realized that in praying for her child to be healed, in a deeper sense she was acknowledging the "fact" that indeed her child was not well at this time. In effect she was saying/praying "Lord, my child is currently ill, and I am asking that you heal him and make him healthy in the future." She realized that if she was praying a similar prayer for herself, it would be difficult for her to feel good about her chances of being healed if she was continually reminding herself that she was currently not healthy. She realized that even though her child was way too young to understand the words of her prayer, that somehow her words would not be fully supporting her child in feeling and being healthy now as well as in the future. With her new understanding of how her concept of time was deeply affecting her prayer, she revised her concept and began praying the following: "Lord thank you for the health and well being of my child. I am eternally grateful." Rather than praying for how she wanted her child to be different in the future, she prayed "from the future" and brought her prayer into the present. She prayed from an understanding that her child was "already" healthy, and that he was simply in a rebalancing stage that if allowed to run its course, would naturally bring about a continuation of his healthy state as time went on.

After many months of praying her new prayer the condition of her child slowly began to change. The doctors were surprised and confounded. Little by little the child blossomed into full health, like a flower that is awakened to life by the warm inviting rays of spring sunlight. He eventually entered school along with all of his buddies, and wound up being a shining example of the power of love, gratitude, and an empowering understanding of time.

Please give yourself the gift of believing that you are already everything that you always wanted to be. Breathe into this radical concept, and then simply allow and encourage yourself to grow into your new sense of self.

In the event of an enemy with missile defense systems, border security and armed guards a UAV maybe the only choice. A UAV with real time video could be remotely controlled much like a model aircraft and fly into the target area. In the event the target was a small group of enemy leaders or the command and control center this tactic could work if you could get within 10-20 miles. No matter what modern day defenses the enemy has you can fly right past them unencumbered directly to the target.

A single mission UAV in the form of a large model aircraft could do the attack on the enemy relatively easy. Let us look at some of the inexpensive units available, which you can build in country.

Hypothetical of course since they have not declared war on us yet. As a tactic to take out enemy command and control or Military leaders we should be considering model aircraft attacks. Many model airplanes could be sent simultaneously to insure the targets are eliminated. No longer will we have to worry about a rogue dictator who due to his own paranoia has spent millions in security and put many defense barriers between himself and the human rights needs of the Free World. Just think all that can be achieved without a carrier fleet, army, trillions in logistical supply chain or the risk of hundreds of thousands of troops.

Spam, spam, spam. It's terrible not only for those of us on the receiving end, but for those of us who SEND e-mail.

This deluge of irritating junk has unfortunately interfered with legitimate e-zine publishers, because we're caught in the anti-spam crossfire.

WHAT'S A PUBLISHER TO DO?

You have two choices when it comes to beating the filters. One is to avoid using these words and phrases altogether. I've found that hard to do. For example, in a recent issue, I discussed how to use your e-zine to increase business. Unfortunately the word "increase" cost me a fat 1.4 points in SpamAssassin, one of the most popular filter programs.

Your second choice is to disguise these words and phrases in clever ways by inserting keyboard symbols within them and/or replacing a letter in them with a symbol. The trick is not to make it too cryptic - you want your readers to be able to understand what you're saying. For example, in my e-zine, I use "fr*ee" for free.

While some spam filters pick up on this trick and penalize you for doing it by adding onto your score, I've found that the points this tactic costs you penalize you much less than using the words and phrases themselves. It's not a perfect solution, but it's working for now.

TEST BEFORE YOU SEND

It's a great idea to test how YOUR e-zine stacks up before you send it out. The good news is you can do this for FREE.

Expired Traffic - Domains with existing link popularity checker

Lyris' Content Checker (http://www.lyris.com/contentchecker) tells you how your e-zine ranks in Spam Assassin. All you do is copy your e-zine text and paste it into the box on their site. They'll run your free report and e-mail a copy to you. It usually arrives within minutes.

The report will tell you exactly which words are costing you points. Usually you should only be concerned if your score is over 5 points. If so, you can either delete those words or disguise them, as I mentioned above.

I test each issue of my e-zines in Content Checker before I publish them, and often I'm surprised (and relieved) that my score is low. That makes me a happy publisher. : )

down on the bow of the boat gazing at the brilliant stars on this moonless night. All of the rods were set out, staggered by depths and distance away from the boat. As we all were enjoying ourselves on this night away from the anxieties of life, we listened to the clickers make there familiar tunes as the waves picked us up and put us back down. I prefer to keep to keep the drags loose, clickers on and then tighten up after the strike. All of the rods sounded alike going click,--- click,--- click... I got up from the bow and said, "something don't sound right". One of the rods was going a bit faster, click, click, click. It was like a shark bite, steady and slow. I ran over to the rod and put the drag lever in the strike position and waited for the fishes turn. Within a few seconds the rod tip bent over, and I yelled "We got one!" I cranked hard and fast and then the rod really doubled over but this fish still didn't take any drag. I don't think the fish knew there was a hook set in him. I tried to crank some more but the spool stood still with the rod bent over. Within a split second we got the reaction of a lifetime. The drag started slipping like we hooked on to a locomotive and would not stop. It seemed to go on forever as the line quickly disappeared off the Penn 80 TW, it looked like we were going to get spooled. We were fishing in about 1,400 feet of water and it looked like we had about that much line out. With less than half the line left the heated drag started slowing down. Now it was our turn. "The bent butt rod stays in the rod holder" I said to the rod man, "just crank the best you can and keep that rod tip bent at all times keeping consistent pressure on the fish". We were able to get about 3 quarters of the spool back when our fish decided to make another locomotive run. This fish took what he wanted, when he wanted. We were in for a big battle. Paying close attention is crucial during this fight, because pressure has to be kept on this fish 100 % of the time. Three people are on this boat and we each got about 5 turns to crank this baby in as we could only last no more than 15 minutes each. Over three hours later then I stuck a large flying gaff into a Broadbill Swordfish estimated over 300 lbs. This is what world class Sword fishing is all about.

The following are some tips from me, the Captain, on rigging for this night excursion:

Boat rigging:

You will need a seaworthy boat, either chartered or owned, All running lights need to be in working order; Port, Starboard, and Stern lights. These lights are mandatory and very important since there are shipping lanes in our fish zone. You must be able to identify and be identified when you're on the water at night. Knowledge of vessel lights is important so as to avoid a collision course. Keep all loose articles either tied down or in a locker as you make the long run offshore. Always do manual checks on your bile pumps. I take a hose and start filling up the bilge. If your float switches are working the bilge pumps will come on automatically and you're ready to roll.

Fishing line:

800 yards of 50 pound test should get most jobs done. Most guys are going with the braided lines which have a smaller diameter than monofilament does and have double the strength. As an example we have used 200 lb. braided Tuff line which has a diameter of 50 lb. test mono, therefore we can spool over 1000 yards on to a Penn 80TW. This might sound overkill but I like to fish all my rods ready for that 400 pounder.

Reels:

50 weight reels such as Finore, Penn, and Shimano's 2-speed are the preferred minimum. If you size down you take a risk of getting spooled or the drag might not hold up against the pressure. It can be done but it takes good skill. The Broadbill Swordfish has been known to reach over 1000 pounds, but more common in the 100-200 pound range.

Rods:

A nice short stick in the 50 -80 pound class is an awesome rod. A bent butt rod is my choice for handling a big fish. Extra large Aftco roller guides are some of the best guides to have and play an important role when line strips off the reel. They help to keep your wind-ons from getting damaged.

Leaders:

To start, wind-on leaders should be used and can be purchased at most offshore tackle shops. They help when your fish comes close to the boat and does not want to cooperate. The extra length of heavy mono will safeguard your line when it chafes on the bottom of your boat or goes around the props. A 40 turn bimini needs to be tied to the end of your main line, then connect the loop that is on your wind-on to the loop on your bimini by taking your wind-on loop and insert it through your bimini. Then take the tag end of your wind-on leader and pass it through the wind-on loop 2 times, then pull tight. Next you need to connect a 300 lb. strength ball-bearing swivel or better to the end of the wind-on using a crimp that matches your line strength. I use 300 pound leaders with the crimps to match and also chaffing gear to reduce any wear and tear to the leader connections.

Now you need to connect 8-10 feet of the same strength leader to the other end of the ball-bearing swivel. Don't forget the chaffing gear.

Hooks:

You are near the final stages. Size 10/0 Mustad hooks are the average and are worthy. The following are 2 single hook rigs:

The first one is easy and used for live bait. Just crimp your hook, (use chaffing gear) to the end of the leader. Keep your loops small as you crimp the hook, but big enough so that the hook swings freely. Live baits should be bridled through the eye sockets and not through the eyeballs. I use 50 pound strength wax line with an open eye needle for bridling. Then I insert the hook upwards under the bridle.

The 2nd rig is a squid rig. It is almost like the first except you use 2 crimps. Pass the first crimp through the tag end so it slides freely then crimp your 2nd one the same way as the live bait rig, only this time leave about 2 inches of the tag end pass through the crimp. Next take your medium to large squid and insert the hook about �½ of an inch down from the top of the mantle and pull through past your crimp and extra tag line. Then take your free moving crimp and bring it down and insert that extra tag line into the crimp, but do not crimp down on it. This will hold up your squid as if on a coat hanger. Then you will need to re-insert the hook back through the squid making sure the squid hangs straight when all is finished. Next take your bridling needle and floss and sow the squids head and tentacle section to the mantle piece. This section is delicate on the squid and might even pull off. Making sure everything looks normal to the fish is important. Using the needle and thread will make the squid stay intact on the strike.

Accessories:

As you prepare to deploy your lines you will need a supply of 12-32 oz weights, light sticks, balloons and rubber bands. The first line to be set out will be the furthest from the boat and also the deepest, 250-350 feet deep. First things first, crack your light stick or twist your Electralume and attach it to your leader with a wax line loop tied on your line anywhere from 10-40 feet away from the bait. Then rig your bait as we did earlier. Throw your bait overboard and go at least 20-50 feet behind the bait to attach your weight by using another wax line loop. Make this connection tight so the weight does not slide around the line. The heavier the weight the faster your bait pulls through the water. Heavier weights for dead baits like Squid, Bonita and small Mackerel and lighter weights for live bait like Blue Runners, goggle eyes, Tinkers etc.

Set your first jug or balloon far from the boat, at least 200 feet away with a cylume attached for a good visual. You're ready for rod # 2. This rod will go 2-250 feet down, then attach your balloon or jug and set this line in between the boat and the furthest balloon. Space the balloons about 100 feet apart. Your next rod will go down 150-200 feet. To avoid all the counting I will pre-measure my lines at home and mark them by tying half hitches with wax line. This way when you deploy your lines, just let out the line slowly until you reach your marker. This last rod does not need a balloon, it is fished right below the boat. If you use more rods you need to set your first balloon further from the boat, and perhaps a 2nd rod at the boat, one on the bow, one on the stern.

It is a good idea to get an under water light that can be kept right under the transom. This light will attract fish, and you can see passing Turtles, Dolphin and other baits come right into the light looking for something to eat and sometimes even a Swordfish will swim through.

Prior to all the rigging, the most important part is to set your drags. With 50 pound line, 8-10 pounds of drag is sufficient at the strike drag position. With heavier lines, 12 pounds of drag is more than enough. The lower jaw on the Swordfish is very soft and if a hook gets lodged in that section it will pull when under enough pressure. If the hook gets lodged in the upper section you can use more drag, but you never know where he's hooked so stay light on the drag and bring that fish to the boat. Shimano's drag scales are a great tool for measuring your drags.

Your final step is to tune your drag levers after you deploy each line. Some Captains prefer to keep their drag lever in the strike position I prefer to keep them loose with the clickers on, just enough so you don't hear the line pay out when the waves lift the boat up and down.

You are now Sword fishing!

Remember there is a size limit of 47 inches from the tip of the lower jaw to the fork of the tail. There is nothing wrong with releasing fish bigger than 47 inches either. Sinking a gaff into a fish near 200 pounds or better is a much better accomplishment.

Bass Fishing Tips

If you are like me, you love to fish at the drop of a hat. While I do plan fishing trips, I also like to go on a whim.

Sometimes the urge strikes out of nowhere and I get up and go right now. Or, maybe I want to stop on the way home from work (or go instead of work like any bass fisherman worth his salt would do).

But then again, living in the city, there are not many places I can get to quickly enough to accommodate this habit. Most of the lakes in my area are over an hour's drive away, which is reasonable unless you are in a hurry.

After being frustrated by this, I decided to start a campaign to help scratch the itch a little bit. Talking to people didn't help much because very few of them were privy to any local fishing holes. So I turned to the Internet.

Bingo. I discovered a bunch of local parks that had ponds in them stocked with largemouth bass and catfish.

So with that information and the help of Yahoo maps, I set out to learn every fishing hole in every local park that I could find. I'm still working on it.

While this was a sacrifice from actually heading out to the lake, this did help scratch the itch somewhat. Some of the ponds I found in the local parks ranged from 3 to 7 acres and were absolutely beautiful. One of the best kept secrets in my city.

In fact, I actually met people IN those parks who either did not know the ponds were stocked, and some didn't even know the ponds were there because they were back off the beaten path.

Admittedly, the fishing can be slow, but it is fishing and I do catch fish from time to time. Just the other day I went to one beautiful little pond hidden in the back of a local park and landed myself a little 2 pound bass (I don't think the bass appreciated my hugs and kisses). Trust me, that was enough to keep the interest up for a few more trips!

Another thing I discovered was some of the local creeks. There are all kinds of fish in them, including bass, catfish, bream and carp (don't tell me about the carp - if you never caught a big one, you are really missing something).

Learn How to Have a Fantastic Backyard Fish Pond!

A good addition to your local fishing is privately owned ponds. Sometimes, if you get to know the owners, they will let you fish in there ponds, as long as you respect their property. There are probably more of these privately owned ponds than you realize. Some are open to the public and charge admission and/or require you to be a member of a club to get in. Check into it - it could be well worth it.

So, don't let the fishing blues get you down. If you don't have time to make the trip out to your favorite lake, try one of the local ponds. Especially if you have kids. These parks are a great place to break in a young angler.

Site Selection

Before you begin growing apples, make sure you have room for at least two trees. Typically, two apple trees bear enough fruit to keep a family of four in good supply. Apple trees need to grow in full sun, which means they need at least six hours of sunlight each day. Even dwarf varieties need to be spaced at least 8-feet apart. It is also essential to provide your trees with good drainage. Although apple trees tolerate a variety of soil types, they prefer sandy loam to sandy clay loam with a pH of about 6.5.

Choosing cultivars

You probably wonder why you need two trees to grow apples. Apple trees are self-incompatible. Simply put, this means that even the most industrious bee (bees are the chief pollinators of apple trees) can't persuade two trees of the same variety to bear fruit. So, to grow apples you usually need two trees of different varieties. The easiest way to begin growing apples is to purchase either bare root or container grown trees from your favorite garden nursery.

In addition to fruit size, taste, and color, your nursery professional can recommend trees that are cold hardy for your area, bloom at approximately the same time, are pollination compatible, and are disease resistant. You'll find that purchasing disease resistant cultivars makes a generous cut in your apple tree maintenance time!

When selecting trees from a catalog or Internet site, you need to make these comparisons between cultivars. Look for catalogs and sites that list compatible cultivars for you.

How high your tree grows also depends on the type of tree you plant. Dwarf varieties reach 8 to 10-feet in height, semi-dwarf trees grow 10 to 15-feet tall, and standard trees may reach heights of 20-feet or more.

When I had my first son I hadn't planned to go back to work. I suddenly had to return to the workforce when he was three months old. I was completely unprepared and my son went from an exclusively breastfeeding baby to a mostly formula baby within a short period of time. I learned a lot from my experience with him and was much more prepared when I had my daughter. I was able to exclusively breastfeed her and work full time. Because of what I went through, the emotions of trying to pump enough milk for the next day, I wanted to gather up all my tips and write them down for others to use. I hope that you find these tips helpful.

1. Plan ahead if possible. Get a freezer stash going before you go back to work.

2. Do not just pump at work. Pump at home on your days off and before and after work.

3516-->3. Pump while nursing. Pump on one side while nursing on the other.

4. Find a good place to pump, where you are comfortable and can relax.

5. Make sure everyone at work knows how important breastfeeding is and not to interrupt you.

6. Drink plenty of fluids through out the day. Drink a large glass of water about an hour before you are going to pump.

7. Use a good quality double breast pump like the Ameda Purely Yours.

8. If your supply is dwindling rent a hospital grade pump.

9. Find other moms to talk to that are breastfeeding and pumping.

10. Do not get discouraged if you don't pump a large volume at once. Most moms pump around three oz per pumping.

11. Pump frequently. Pumping frequently is more important than how long you pump.

12. Try to pump at least every three hours.

13. Pumping is NOT as efficient as nursing. Do not gauge your milk supply by how much you pump. Your baby will get more milk from nursing than you will make from pumping.

14. Before you nurse, relax and do a quick breast massage. This will help you get a better let down.

15. Any time you give your baby a bottle make sure you pump in place of that.

16. Nurse frequently at night or try reverse cycling. Reverse cycling is when baby nurses more at night than during the day.

17. Co-sleep with baby if you are comfortable so he can nurse more at night. Nursing at night will help your supply.

18. Try drinking Mothers Milk tea.

19. Eat a bowl of oatmeal in the morning. Oatmeal is really good for boosting milk supply.

20. Avoid giving bottle to baby before he is three weeks.

21. Use a slow flow nipple for your bottles.

22. Find a day care provider that is a breastfeeding supporter. An uneducated day care provider can sabotage your success.

23. Take Fenugreek or Blessed Thistle

24. If you need to supplement when you are home use a Supplemental Nursing System.

25. Do not assume because baby is fussing it is your supply. Many times baby will fuss for other reasons.

26. When preparing bottles for day care, store them in three oz portions. Your baby will likely only need three oz at a time. If he needs more up it to four.

27. Send small 2 oz bottles of breast milk for day care provider to give to baby if you will be picking him up soon. This way baby will be ready to nurse when you get him home.

28. Nurse on your lunch break if you can.

29. Take picture of baby with you to work. Look at your baby when you are pumping. It will help with your let down.

30. Have a nurse in. On the weekend spend the entire weekend in bed with your baby and nurse as frequently as you can.

31. During pumping session, take a break when your milk stops flowing. Massage your breast and use nipple stimulation to get a second let down. You will usually get another oz or so if you can get a second let down.

32. Cut down on caffeine. Caffeine will hinder your supply

33. Don't do extreme dieting. Eat a healthy diet.

34. Contact a La Leche League Leader or lactation consultant for advice.

35. Avoid using bottles and pacifiers when you are home.

36. Try switch nursing when you are home.

Nurse on one side then switch to the other when baby seems to be getting fussy. Switch sides two or three times while nursing.

41. Don't watch the pump. Staring at the pump watching for milk will make your session more stressful.

42. Adjust the suction controls, experiment with the speed and suction until you find what works best for you.

43. Keep spare parts readily available for your pump so you don't have any emergencies.

44. If you own a hands free pump like whisperwear try pumping on the drive to work.

45. Massage your breasts while you pump.

46. Pump in the morning. Your supply is best in the morning.

47. Bring a baby blanket or item of clothing that smells like baby. Use your senses to visualize your baby.

48. Close your eyes and picture baby nursing.

Did you know you can get free newspaper and television advertising for your home business? How? Just pick up the telephone and call your local media and tell them all about your home business. A quick visualization of an ant farm or an aquarium in which one inhabitant or group of inhabitants is attempting to ruin or exploit the other inhabitants' abode and life-support systems for their own benefit - and in the process rendering it unlivable or even dangerous - without affecting themselves points up the concreteness of this reality and the absurdity of behaving otherwise. But the truth is, we do this everyday and we do it with that same self-satisfied and smug attitude that reflects a similar complete state of denial of the absurdity of our actions.

No matter how big or open it seems, the earth is just one big ant farm and we are the ants. We destroy, endanger, exploit or otherwise screw up the "other side" at our peril - indeed our own peril is only just now becoming alarmingly clear to us in many ways with the advent of undeniable climate change, unsustainable lifestyles and unavoidable economic crises.

How are you willing to shift your attitude and behavior to encompass this understanding of a "one for all and all for one" existence? How does your current life reflect the reality of unity - and how does it deny it? As much as we might not care for it, change toward and acceptance of the need to embrace all life as sacred is coming, and none to soon in the opinion of many (and hopefully, none to late, either). Hosting a garage sale is a great solution for ridding yourself of clutter and making some extra money. To have an effective, efficient, and successful garage sale, it takes some preparation and basic know-how. Part of the apprehension in having a garage sale is the fear of a negative outcome. First Things First

Before you start planning, phone your local authorities to inquire about any permits you may need and any provisions or ordinances they may have. Some communities may prohibit the sale of food items or used bedding.

Plan ahead what you'd like to do with remaining leftovers that don't sell. Donations are always welcome at thrift stores, some shelters, and even some nursing homes. Call ahead to these establishments and get information on any items they don't accept or how and when they accept drop-offs.

Decide if you want to include others. Maybe you have friends or family that would like to add some items to your sale.

Raise Your Prices and Increase Sales!

You may want to consider an entire neighborhood or block sale. This can cut your advertising costs down considerably.

Safety Tips

Have a phone handy if possible.

Post a sign on any entrance doors that states "Off Limits". You don't want anyone inside your home or wandering around the perimeter of your home. For safety reasons, consider sitting outside of your garage. Being inside the garage is often remote and not visible from roadside. Keep your cash box in a safe location.

Don't permit any hanging sale items or tables to obstruct your view. Don't place items right next to the road where they could be easily stolen. If you have a pet, please make sure it's on a leash.

While making change, always keep the money handed to you in plain view. This prevents anyone from claiming they gave you an amount they didn't. In many areas, it's illegal to post signs on utility poles because it's a potential hazard to workers. Check before placing your signs.

Be sure the items you're selling have not been recalled or pose any potential hazards. You should avoid selling older cribs, strollers, helmets, playpens, carseats, and baby gates.

Consider not posting your full address in your ads. You can share main cross streets and let visitors follow your signs.

Gathering the Goods

You can start at anytime to declutter and organize items you don't want to keep. You can start organizing your unwanted items into boxes. There are many practical items that are great sellers, so don't overlook anything because you think it won't sell. You never know who might purchase it. Every little sale adds up. You should try to have a wide variety of items. Many collectors and dealers frequent garage sales, so don't be afraid to include one of a kind type items. (Ex: one single glass or one individual candlestick)

Go room to room and start cleaning, purging, and placing all your unwanted "stuff" into your garage sale holding boxes. Don't forget to go through closets, dressers, basement, attic, and even the garage to haul out your "junk".

As you're placing items into the designated sale boxes, note if anything is easily cleaned or repaired. It's much easier to go through this process as you're slowly accumulating and collecting, than to inspect everything all at once while you're pricing items later.

Planning the Date

Your best day to host a sale is on Saturday because most people get paid toward the end of the week and are looking for sales on the weekend. The majority of garage sale days are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You may want to consider hosting your sale more than one day, but you'll want to have a lot of items if you opt for a multiple day sale.

All is not lost if you decide to have your garage sale on a weekday. The benefit of having it during the week is that the people attending won't be garage sale hopping and holding out for better deals elsewhere.

Try to avoid a date that conflicts with any major holidays, as they may not be as profitable. Keep in mind that you can't accommodate everyone.

Be prepared for early birds. Someone always comes early!

Divorce Decision-Decide if divorce is the answer

Decide if you're willing to accept people arriving any time prior to your advertised time of your sale. Don't be afraid to turn folks away, if they come knocking too soon and you've decided not to permit early birds. You're better off to be prepared than to have possible regrets later. If you do plan to permit early birds, be prepared the day before your sale or at the very least an hour before.

When planning the date, clear your family calendar for the entire day. You may want to recruit some help, so make sure others are available to assist. Give yourself at least a couple week's notice to organize well.

Getting the Word Out

You need to advertise your sale. You can advertise your sale in community papers, signs, local newspaper, word of mouth, laundromats, and grocery stores.

Advertising tips

Displaying balloons at your house is an eye catching way to show where you're located.

Your garage sale sign(s) should have arrows, be simple, readable, and bright.

If you live on a side street, a few signs leading to your house is a good idea.

If posting a printed ad, be sure it's printed on a weekend and offers a couple days notice because most garage sale buyers check out the ads Friday thru Sunday.

It's best if you can mention the best items in your ad to show that you have a good variety available and to attract the most people. Please remember to take your signs down after your sale too.

Pricing and Money Matters

Every item should be priced and easy to read. Label anything damaged or questionable "as is". I recommend using easy to remove price tags. Stickers and string hang tags work best. There is nothing more disappointing than finding an item at a sale and the seller has added the price directly on the item in black marker. Color coded stickers are great if you're holding a group garage sale with others.

It is sometimes beneficial to have current prices of what your items cost new. This can serve as a comparison to how good your prices truly are. Pricing can be set at about 1/2 the retail cost to you.

Post a sign if you're not accepting checks and that all sales are final. Don't hold items without a deposit. If holding a group sale, plan with others the lowest price they'll accept on their items.

Display Tips

Neat displays and groupings are recommended.

Display large merchandise and some good items for both men and women visibly appealing from roadside. If it looks like junk from roadside, people will drive right by and not bother to even stop.

Have an electrical source. This is for people to test any electrical items you have for sale. Maybe consider having these items plugged in already. Place breakables towards the back of tables or higher for protection against breakage.

Leave enough walking space for shoppers.

Clothing can be difficult to sell. You should arrange them neatly. Consider displaying them by color or size. Although your accountant or business advisor can help you prepare your business plan, only you can set the appropriate goals and follow through on them. Yes, you definitely need a business plan, not just for obtaining capital, but as a roadmap for your business.

Popular Misconception #6: "I like bartering with clients because it saves paperwork and taxes." Are You Reporting Barter Transactions?

Bartering is an excellent way of doing business. However, contrary to popular belief, some barter transactions are taxable, both for income and sales tax purposes.

Legally, you must maintain adequate financial records for your business. Barter transactions made by your business must be reported to the appropriate taxation authorities and taxes paid. However, transactions between friends not engaging in business with each other may not be taxable.

On the other hand, if I trade accounting services for a vacation for my family, I should really declare the value of such services as income. The firm supplying the vacation would be able to deduct that value as accounting fees. Any sales or similar taxes would have to be paid on such transaction.

Many persons don`t record such transactions. For some, it may be a matter of wanting to believe that you don`t need to be bothered with the extra paperwork or taxes. Remember, though, that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Legally, you must keep proper records and pay all taxes due.

Popular Misconception #7: "All My Workers Are Self-Employed, So I Don`t Need To Bother With Payroll Or Workers` Compensation." Do You Need To Pay Payroll Taxes?

To save on payroll taxes and workers` compensation premiums, many employers arrange their affairs in such a way that those working for them are self-employed, independent contractors. This is good tax planning.

On the other hand, some employers take the position that all those working for them are self-employed, whether they are or not. Although it is tempting to eliminate payroll taxes and workers` compensation premiums, care should be taken to do so legally.

Whether those working for you are employed or self-employed is a question of fact (which can be determined by the Courts). Do you supply the tools and vehicles? Do you determine the working hours? Do you have the right to control how the job will be done? Do you pay a flat-rate or by-the-hour or a salary? Does your worker have other clients?

By asking several such questions, a pattern will emerge as to whether your worker is employed or self-employed. If it turns out that your worker fits all the criteria of an employee, don`t say he`s self-employed. On audit, you would still be responsible for the payroll taxes (and penalties and interest as well).

Even if your workers are considered independent contractors by the Income Tax Department, it is still possible that they will be considered to be "workers" for purposes of Workers` Compensation legislation. Thus, it is the responsibility of the employer to determine whether such coverage is necessary or not. Failure to obtain proper coverage could subject you to substantial (and unnecessary) costs.

In review, calling someone self-employed, doesn`t necessarily make them self-employed. If you have a dog, call it a dog. Your position that your dog is really a cat will not be successful. Likewise, make sure that your position regarding your workers is legally correct.

To keep them a bit busy, and awaiting your upcoming articles, you should give them regular advice for their websites and business. You should also ask them if they need any other help from you. That why you build up a relationship with those publishers, and both can gain a lot out of it!

Many personal car insurance companies consider your credit information when determining how much premium to charge for your insurance. So if you are calling around for new car insurance, keep in mind that many insurers are looking at your credit history to determine your car insurance rates. I hope that we will be able to let you know why and how they do this.

The reason that some insurance companies use credit information is because they feel there is a direct correlation between consumer's credit history behaviors and expected claims that may occur. Therefore, they feel that people with better credit behavior are less likely to severe insurance losses.

Many

insurance companies still use your age, driving history, type of vehicle, where you live in determining how much you should pay for your insurance. Therefore, if you have not established a credit history yet, the companies that use credit history may not be best for you. They may not allow you to be eligible for certain discounts, which could result in higher premiums.

The companies that do use credit scoring will still use other factors in determining your premium. They will also use your age, driving history, type of vehicle, where you live in determining how much you should pay for your insurance.

Is it fair for an insurance company even look at my credit information without my permission? The answer is yes. The Federal Fair credit-reporting act says "Reasonable procedures. It is the purpose of this title to require that consumer reporting agencies adopt reasonable procedures for meeting the needs of commerce for consumer credit, personnel, insurance, and other information in a manner which is fair and equitable to the consumer, with regard to the confidentiality, accuracy, relevancy, and proper utilization of such information in accordance with the requirements of this title." If you feel that your credit history is better then the insurer can find, make sure the insurer has your correct name, address, social security number, and date of birth.

Some insurance companies will look directly at your actual credit reports when determining your rate, however most will use what is called an "insurance credit score." An insurance credit score is developed by using statistical techniques and methods to predict the likelihood a consumer will have a higher than anticipated losses. These are similar to what lenders use to predict the reliability of an applicant repaying a loan. Credit History Factors and Car Insurance Rates

Insurance companies use many factors in determining your credit score. Here are some examples of those factors:

. Public records: bankruptcy, collections, foreclosures, liens, charge-offs, etc.

. Past payment history: the number and frequency of late payments and the days between the due date and late payment date.

BAD CREDIT HELP - NO CHEX SYSTEMS

Length of credit history: the amount of time you have been in the credit system.

. Inquiries for credit: the number of times you have recently applied for new credit, including mortgage loans, utility accounts, and credit card accounts.

. Number of open lines of credit: the number of credit cards, whether you use them or not.

. Type of credit in use: major credit cards, store credit cards, finance company loans, etc.

. Unused credit: how much you owe compared to how much credit is available to you.

Your insurance credit score may differ from company to company, as they will use different factors in determining your premium. Notice that we call it an insurance credit score. This means that it encompasses many factors including credit.

Since each insurance company uses different techniques to determine your credit score it is hard to tell you what a good credit score is. Usually a good credit score will result in lower premiums.

Your agent or company is not obligated to tell you your credit score. In fact, they might not even know what it is. All they usually know is that your credit score qualifies you for a specific rate or policy. Some companies also offer better rates under each qualifying tier.

If you feel that there is incorrect information on your credit report, you should tell the credit bureau. If you report and error, the credit bureau must investigate the error and get back to you within 30 days. You can ask the credit bureau to send a notice of the correction to any creditor or insurer that has checked your file in the past six months. Once the errors are corrected, it is a good idea to get a new copy of your credit report several months later to make sure the wrong information has not been reported again.

The three national credit bureaus are:

. Trans Union (www.transunion.com or 800-888-4213)

. Equifax (www.credit.equifax.com or 800-685-1111)

. Experian (www.experian.com or 888-397-3742)

Tell your insurance company. Do not wait until the credit bureau investigates the errors to contact your insurer. Tell your insurance company right away and ask if the errors will make a difference in your insurance. If the errors are big, tell your insurer that you are disputing the information and ask if they will wait to use your credit information until the errors are corrected. Small errors may not have much affect on your insurance credit score. If the errors are big, it can make a significant difference in your premium. Some companies are unable to adjust the premiums until the score is corrected, but it does not hurt to ask.

If you have taken the steps to improve your credit, score you should ask your insurance company to re-evaluate your credit score at renewal.

Recent companies have been advertising wifi hotspot locations that are 'turnkey' (they can run themselves), and only cost between $13,000 and $20,000 to start. Is that good?

First of all, if it's so turnkey then why aren't they just popping off wifi hotspot locations left and right for themselves, is it their newfound generosity that has them 'sharing' the opportunities they have available. I'm not knocking the possibility of some companies to provide a business model, like in the restaurant business where they allow you to own a branded franchise for an initial investment in order to spread out locations in a more easier return on investment. However, wifi locations normally have an additional service or product that acts as an anchor for customers to come in and use the benefit of wi-fi to connect to the Internet thru broadband high speed access. are prime examples of a business model that has customers coming in for a service or product and then using wifi access as a secondary product/service.

Secondly, the potential for wifi hotspots cannot be limited to a cookie-cutter system that will fit everyone, after all if that were the case the other auto makers wouldn't be in business and we would still be driving 'Model T' Fords. Not to mention the fact that if you open a business with only wifi access as the only product/service available and then the community, town or city where your business is located decides to wirelessly enable the public transportation system like in the southern California city of Cerritos; guess what - your business just got knocked the flip out.

African American small business people have resources, and some may believe those resources are unlimited. But if you shell out $20,000 for a new business and after 6 months get locked out of your client base by a larger business or business model, you have lost more than your investment. A wifi business is not something that can be advanced as able to stand on it's own in the present day. In the example above the city of Cerritos is delivering wifi along with it's transportation system, which should probably increase ridership as people will opt to ride and check their email or just finish up a project as they go to work or to shop.

Look carefully at starting to use wifi in your business, research and see if there is a potential for competition to knock you client base out of the ballpark. Even then, when is your competition going to implement their wifi access and see if you have time to enhance your wifi service with coupons or other attractive services that may not be available to your competition. Wifi access will become a very powerful business asset in the coming year and more so in the future. Now is the time to get your feet wet, just check out your options in order not to get drowned out of business.

Several articles and newsletters with the message that New Year's resolutions are a worthless exercise and a poorly disguised setup for failure have passed across my desk this last week, and the year before, and the year before that.

I do not believe in failure! There is always something good to be found in any learning experience. Besides, if we always succeeded at everything we did, we would not know we succeeded because there would be nothing to measure success against! Certainly, the normal statements along the lines of losing weight, quitting smoking, etc. are normally an invitation to be unsuccessful. The reason being that if you could not find the power before to achieve this, what would be different about now?

However, here are some ideas for you to consider that could possibly have a huge impact on your life this coming year.

1. Define your Self. Who are you? What do you stand for? What are the values that make you whole? Begin this task immediately and put it in writing. Refer to it often. Refine it continually as you discover things about your Self you did not know. Start with the following premise, which many of us have. You are not your work, your family or anything else external. You are internal. You are you.

2. What is your dream for the future? This is your intent. If it remains undefined and unrecognized, it will most likely never be created into reality. The reason for this is that you have to create your own reality. If you do not begin with this first step of intent to create, nothing can happen. Everything that ever is, was first a thought; then spoken, then acted upon. Of course this concept is much easier said than done. May I suggest that you not concern yourself with the HOW and only concern yourself with the intent? The HOW is not really in your power at this time. You need help with that.

3. Live your life as if each minute were your last. This has been said so many times that we normally brush the thought aside. Why do we do this? It is a crucial part of happiness and joy. We have a tremendous power within us to change our world. I believe strongly that we create our own world by making each choice that is offered to us every second of the day. That is the ONLY power we have; but it is an incredible power! When we decide to consciously choose to make each and every decision, then we are creating our world on a minute-by-minute basis. Making our choices becomes easier! Simply follow the guidelines as you defined who you are in step 1!

4. Let it go. We have no power over the future! You can worry, fret, get ulcers, scream, shout, and go down kicking, but you will not alter the future one bit and more importantly, while you are making that fuss about the future, you might miss making a couple of crucial, conscious choices in the here and now that allow you to create your future!

Nothing More Sexy than Self Confidence

What you see in the mirror is awesome and the sooner you accept that, the better! I adopted the attitude very early on that I was so incredible that men would swoon and women would be asking for beauty tips and I've carried myself with that attitude my whole life. Even when I wake up with a huge pimple in the middle of my forehead, even when my face puffed up with mental-pause nonsense (menopause, I laugh in your face), even when I do look horrid, I still think I'm the most awesome horrid; if nothing else, I'm the best, always. After all, who's to say I'm not.

I see myself as beautiful because that's how I want to see myself. You could say I'm my own best friend. I build myself up, rather than tear myself down. I do the same thing regarding health so even if I feel lousy, I'm more likely to say (if asked), that I feel fine, thank you very much.

It's a mental game, yes, but it's a game I play to win. I believe (which makes it true for me) that if I tell myself positive things, then positive things will follow.

Catching yourself in a negative comment is step 1, so if you hear yourself saying anything negative or demeaning to yourself, just stop right then and there, and soften your self talk. There's no sense arguing about it. Just do it, and see what happens.

Finding Beauty in all Forms

I also truly appreciate the human form (i.e. from mountainous Jabba the Hut, to Kate Moss tiny twig thin) and I love it in all styles and shapes. When I meet someone I look first into their eyes. Can I see who's inside to find the real person and see their inner beauty? Only then do I see what's outside. How someone looks on the outside is, in my opinion, not reality. I learned this when I was a teenager and thought I was such a goddess that no man could resist. I quickly learn that sure, some fellows liked me best but other guys preferred my friend. Wow, reality bites! It was a major life lesson; beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

You are a lovely human being, male, female, short, tall, sleekly thin or lusciously thick. No matter what your outer shape displays, it is the beauty within you project outwardly that people see. It's confidence and an inner glow that attracts a mate. If you're embarrassed to believe you are lovely, or just won't believe it, practice saying, "I am awesome, I am lovable, I am friggen great and you just are missing if you can't see it." You're a beautiful lady, a gorgeous guy. We've all seen movie stars who suddenly take on "sex appeal" because of the power they project. Power has always been sexy, and self confidence is your inner power. Project your inner confidence, and the beauty shines through.

You deserve the very best life has to offer, and you deserve to believe in yourself. Today, tonight and throughout all of your days, see it, believe it and you will become it.

Just for fun, today as you go about your usual routine, pretend you are the richest, most beautiful creature alive. Smile at the world with the knowledge that you are perfect, window shop knowing you can have anything you want. Hold your head high, your back straight and notice how much better you feel with this newfound confidence. Notice also how people see you differently. They smile and nod. They wonder, what is it about that lady that makes me want to watch her? What's he got, that I don't? There is a seed of beauty and self confidence inside you. Water it, nurture it, and it will grow.
